Cabrera, Angel Leopoldo (1969–)
Angel Cabrera, an Argentine professional golfer born September 12, 1969, in Córdoba, surprisingly won the U.S. Open Tournament in June 2007. Before that, in a professional career that began in 1989, the cigarette-puffing Cabrera, nicknamed El Pato (The Duck), had played mainly in Europe and had never won in the United States, though he had earned $2,888,983 and tied for eighth at the 2006 Masters Tournament. His first professional victories were at the 1995 Paraguay and Colombian Opens. He qualified for the European tour in 1996 and has since ranked in the top fifteen six times, winning three events there and six others around South America. Cabrera is Argentina's best known golfer since Roberto De Vicenzo, who won 231 tournaments, including five PGA Tour events and the 1967 British Open.
