Bozzo, Laura (1951–)
Born August 19, 1951, in Lima, Perú, Bozzo is a lawyer, former city councillor of Lima, and popular television talk show host. In 1996 she hosted the talk show Intimidades. But it was after Bozzo began hosting Laura en América in 1998 that she became famous. The program presented bizarre and sensationalistic dramas about poor people.
Bozzo was prosecuted in 2002 for illicit association and receiving money to support Alberto Fujimori's presidential reelection bid of 2000. After three years of house arrest, the judiciary was required to set her free in 2005 because it had not presented charges against her on time. The judiciary changed from house arrest to "appearance." The court sentenced her in July 2006 to four years of conditional prison in July 2006, but because she had been under house arrest for three years she did not have to go to jail.
