Kabti-ilani-marduk
Circa eighth century b.c.e.
Poet and scribe
Divinely Inspired. According to the concluding part of the Poem of Erra and Ishum, Kabati-ilani-Marduk was its author. It was highly unusual for an author to identify himself. Kabti-ilani-Marduk explained that the poem was revealed to him in a dream. In Mesopotamia, dreams were believed to have been sent by the gods. Kabati-ilani-Marduk claimed that he made no changes to the story, relaying only what the god had revealed to him.
