Kabos, Ilona
Kabos, Ilona, Hungarian pianist; b. Budapest, Dec. 7, 1893; d. London, May 28, 1973. She studied with Arpád Szendy, Kodály, and Leo Weiner at the Budapest Academy of Music, winning the Liszt Prize when she was 15. She then made her debut in Budapest at 16 and subsequently toured throughout Europe, eventually gaining a fine reputation as an interpreter of contemporary music. In later years, she made her home in London, where she was active as a teacher; also gave master classes in Europe and North America, numbering among her outstanding students Peter Frankl, John Ogdon, and Joseph Kalichstein. From 1931 to 1945 she was married to Louis Kentner .
