Yorkshire, East Riding
Yorkshire, East Riding. Along with the other two ridings of Danish ancestry, East Riding, based upon Hull and including Beverley, Bridlington, Driffield, and Market Weighton, was given county status in 1888. In the 1972 reorganization of local government most of it was united with north Lincolnshire to form Humberside, gaining Goole from West Riding, but losing many parishes to North Yorkshire. After Humberside had been abolished in 1996, it was reconstituted as a unitary authority (with county status for ceremonial purposes), with Hull as a separate unitary authority. Outside Hull it is pleasant farming country.
