Schlesinger, Arthur Meier, Jr (1917– ) US historian. He achieved prominence with The Age of Jackson (1945). He became a leading liberal intellectual in the era of the Cold War, serving as special assistant to President John F. Kennedy (1961–64). His A Thousand Days (1965), an account of the Kennedy administration, was followed by Robert Kennedy and His Times (1978).
