Gunnell, Sally Janet Jane (1966– ) British athlete. In the 1992 Olympic Games, Gunnell captained the British women's team, and won a gold medal in the 400m hurdles. She repeated this success in the 1993 World Championships, breaking the world record. A foot injury prevented her defence of the world title in 1995, and forced her retirement from the 1996 Olympic Games.
