Eureka Stockade

Eureka Stockade (1854) Armed rebellion of gold diggers at Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. Resentment at exploitative administration of the goldfields culminated in some 150 diggers forming a stockade and firing on a contingent of 280 police and troops. They were quickly overcome and 30 men killed. None of the rebels were subsequently convicted.
