Euripus.
1. Formal stretch of water in a Roman garden, often flanked by architectural constructions, statuary, etc., as at the Canopus of the Villa Adriana, Tivoli (134–8).

2. Ditch or canal around an arena in a Roman amphitheatre to deter the escape of wild animals and to separate spectacle from spectators.
