Alice Springs
Alice Springs Town on the River Todd, s Northern Territory, central Australia. Founded in 1860, it is a crucial railhead, livestock shipping centre and supply source for a vast area that includes Ayers Rock. It is the headquarters of the Flying Doctor Service and the School of the Air (radio-linked classes for children living in the ‘outback’). It is the state's second largest town (after Darwin). Pop. (1996) 22,488.
