Born April 29, 1945, in South Africa. Education: Graduated from the Royal College of Art, London, in 1969, where he studied cinematography.

Career: Cinematographer, scenic artist, camera operator, and lighting director. Cinematographer for television commercials, 1972–75; previously worked as a photojournalist, focusing on pictures of rock stars, and print editor; ran Anthony Armstrong–Jones' photo studio for three years.
