Independent Presbyterian, comprehensive, coed. Awards bachelor's and master's degrees. Founded 1890. Setting: 200-acre suburban campus. Endowment: $64 million. Research spending 2003-04: $310,000. Educational spending 2003-04: $5803 per student. Total enrollment: 2,373. Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 13:1. 2,003 applied, 71% were admitted. 42% from top 10% of their high school class, 72% from top quarter, 96% from top half. 40 valedictorians. Full-time: 2,034 students, 58% women, 42% men. Application fee: $0. Comprehensive fee: $29,438 includes full-time tuition ($22,400), mandatory fees ($278), and college room and board ($6760). Room and board charges vary according to board plan and housing facility.
Collegiate Environment:
Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper, radio station. Social organizations: 80 open to all. Most popular organizations: International Club, Young Life, En Christo, Hawaiian Club, intramural sports. Major annual events: Homecoming, Community Building Day, Spring Fest. Student services: health clinic, personal-psychological counseling. Campus security: 24-hour emergency response devices and patrols, late night transport-escort service. 1,150 college housing spaces available; 1,078 were occupied in 2003-04. Freshmen guaranteed college housing. On-campus residence required through sophomore year. Option: coed housing available. Harriet Cheney Cowles Library plus 2 others with 17,982 books, 773 serials, an OPAC, and a Web page. Operations spending 2003-04: $788,594. 200 computers available on campus for general student use. Computer purchase/lease plans available. A campuswide network can be accessed from student residence rooms and from off campus. Staffed computer lab on campus.
