University of Massachusetts Lowell was founded in 1894. It is accredited by New England Association of Schools and Colleges. It first offered distance learning courses in 1995. In fall 2004, there were 2,400 students enrolled in distance learning courses. Institutionally administered financial aid is available to distance learners.
