Distance Learning Program
SetonWorldWide, Seton Hall's online campus, offers degree programs and certificates designed for professionals who have demonstrated achievement in their respective fields and have the ability, desire, and dedication to accept the rigors of a fast-paced, challenging curriculum. Working professionals can benefit from "anytime, anywhere" education. As learning team members, students and faculty members have extensive interaction, and these relation ships provide a rich and dynamic online learning experience. All SetonWorld-Wide degree program graduates receive an accredited Seton Hall University degree.
Delivery Media
Online learning takes advantage of different methods of presentation, but the educational objectives are the same as traditional, in-classroom learning at Seton Hall University. SetonWorldWide provides for student-teacher interaction through a discussion section for each unit, which poses questions and comments initiated by the instructor. Students then respond both to the instructor and to each other with answers that show critical thinking and synthesis of course content. E-mail is used for individual and small-group interactions. Instructors review student material submitted electronically, and students receive feedback via e-mail or telephone.
Programs of Study
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing(B.S.N.) program is designed for thebusy RN who wants to balance careerand personal commitments with aflexible educational program of study.The five-semester program offers therequired 34 credits of nursing(nine courses) online, and students maycomplete their clinical requirementswithin their respective geographicallocations.
The nationally ranked Master ofScience in Nursing (M.S.N.)–Nurse Practitioner program provides highly interactive online multimedia programs in five clinical specialty areas: adult, gerontological, pediatric, women's health, and acute-care nurse practitioner. Students complete the didactic portion of the program online in their home or office at their convenience. The required clinical practice component is fulfilled within the students' geographical location. All nurse practitioner graduates are eligible to apply for advanced-practice certification.
The 33-credit M.S.N. in health systems administration is designed to prepare nurse managers, directors, and executives with the needed leadership skills demanded by today's complex health-care industry. Students become knowledgeable about the business and financial operations necessary to effectively manage large patient-care departments. Nurses looking to bring their career to a new level in management are ideal candidates.
Three on-campus weekend residencies enable students to meet their classmates and the faculty in person. On Orientation Weekend, students participate in hands-on training in accessing their online courses and resources, tour the Seton Hall campus, and meet other online learning teams. For the Mid-Program Weekend Residency, clinical assessment skills are refined and role development sessions are scheduled. The Final Residency Weekend is the culminating event of the program, with scheduled final student project presentations and graduation activities. The health systems administration students attend only the first and last weekend residencies.
Student Services
Students find everything they need online, including admission information, academic assistance, financial aid assistance, career guidance, and other services. The Help Desk's technical support staff has the knowledge and experience to help make every student's transition into the virtual class room a smooth one. All SetonWorldWide participants have access to Seton Hall University library resources. During the orientation, students meet the librarians and technical staff members who provide assistance throughout the program. Students can use the library's ASK ME service to request and receive assistance from a fully qualified librarian.
Credit Options
Graduate credits earned recently at another accredited college or university may be accepted in partial satisfaction of graduate credit requirements. A total of 6 credits may be approved for transfer.
Faculty
The College of Nursing faculty includes distinguished educators and prolific researchers who bring real-world management perspectives to the learning environment. Students receive truly individualized personal attention as well as supportive career direction and guidance. The College has about 60 full- and part-time faculty members.
Admission
In addition to having a diploma or an associate degree from a nursing program, applicants to the B.S.N. program must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and RN licensure. M.S.N. applicants must have graduated from an NLN- or CCNE-accredited baccalaureate program in nursing and have earned at least a B average in nursing courses and overall. GRE or MAT testing is required.
Tuition and Fees
The all-inclusive tuition includes all fees, except for the application fee and room and meals for the short on-campus residencies. Computer equip ment, software, Internet access, and travel expenses to the residencies are not covered. The cost for tuition for the 2005–06 academic year was $717 per credit for undergraduate courses and $743 per credit for graduate courses.
Financial Aid
Almost 90 percent of the students who entered Seton Hall in 2005 received some form of financial aid, and 75 percent of these students received money directly from the University. The four types of financial aid include scholarships, grants and discounts, loans, and part-time jobs on campus. In addition, many working RNs use tuition remission through their places of employment. Specific nursing scholarships are available for nursing students during the clinical portion of the curriculum.
Applying
B.S.N. applicants must submit the completed application, the $45 nonrefundable application fee, all official high school and college transcripts, two letters of recommendation from academic and professional references, and a resume or curriculum vitae. M.S.N. applicants must submit the completed application, the $50 nonrefundable application fee, a typewritten statement of goals, a curriculum vitae or resume, all official college transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and scores from the Miller Analogies Test.
