Independent, university, coed. Awards bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees. Founded 1861. Setting: 154-acre urban campus with easy access to Boston. Endowment: $5.9 billion. Collegiate Environment:

MIT Libraries plus 10 others with 2.7 million books, 2.4 million microform titles, 22,597 serials, 596,928 audiovisual materials, an OPAC, and a Web page.
