Beverlee Bell Scholarships in Human Rights and Democracy (Graduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To provide support to qualified students who want to pursue their education. Focus: Human rights. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduate students making a significant contribution to human rights and democracy in developing countries. Criteria: Applicants are selected based on the committee’s review of the application materials.
Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants are advised to contact the Carleton University, Academic Department, 1125 Colonel By Dr., Ottawa, ON for further information about the scholarship application form and requirements. Deadline: January.
Remarks: Established in 2002 to honor the memory of NDP activist Beverlee Bell, by her family and the Douglas-Coldwell Foundation.
Douglas-Coldwell Foundation Scholarships in Social Affairs (Graduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To support deserving student who wants to pursue their study. Focus: Education, English as a second language; History; Political science; Social work; Sociology. Qualif.: Applicants must be fully-qualified graduate students preparing a thesis on a topic involving some aspect of Canadian social theory or history. Criteria: Applicants are selected based on the Scholarship Committee’s review of the application materials.
Funds Avail.: $3,000. To Apply: Scholarship application form and requirements are available at University of Re-gina, Graduate Studies and Research. Deadline: October 31.
Kalmen Kaplansky Scholarships in Economic and Social Rights (Graduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To provide support to qualified students who want to pursue their education. Focus: Economics; Civil rights. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduate students researching economic and social rights in a School or Department in the Faculty of Public Affairs and Management at Carleton University. Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on their research work.
Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants are advised to contact the Carleton University, Academic Unit, 1125 Colonel By Dr., Ottawa, ON for further information about the scholarship application form and other requirements. Deadline: February 1.
Remarks: Scholarship was established in 1998 by the Douglas-Coldwell Foundation in honor of the lifetime achievement of Dr. Kalmen Kaplansky, labor and human rights advocate, in the field of economic and social rights.
