Dounias, Minos
Dounias, Minos, Greek violinist, musicologist, and music critic; b. Cetate, Romania, Sept. 26, 1900; d. Athens, Oct. 20, 1962. He studied at Robert Coll. in Constantinople, where he received instruction in violin, and with Moser and Kulenkampff at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik (1921–26); then studied musicology with Abert and Schering at the Univ. of Berlin (Ph.D., 1932, with the diss. Die Violinkonzerte Giuseppe Tartinis’, publ. in Wolfenbiittel, 1935; 2nd ed., 1966). He settled in Athens in 1936, where he taught at Pierce Coll., wrote music criticism, and made appearances as a violinist. He was particularly active in the promotion of early music.
