Soriano, Raphael Simon
Soriano, Raphael Simon (1907–88). Greek-born American architect. He worked (1932–5) with Neutra before setting up on his own (1936). He made his name with several private houses (e.g. Lipetz House, 1843 Dillon Road (1936), Polito House, 1650 Queens Road (1938), and Ross House, 2123 Valentine Drive (1938), all in Los Angeles, CA). From 1945 he was influenced by Mies van der Rohe, and designed (1955) a prototype Steel Frame House for Mass Production at Palo Alto, CA, for Eichler. He contributed to the Case Study House project (1950).
