Silvani, Gherardo
Silvani, Gherardo (1579–1675). Prolific Florentine architect and sculptor. He designed the interiors of the Salviati Chapel (1611—one of the finest examples of late-Renaissance architecture in the city), and the Calderini Chapel (1618–21—lined with marble), both in Santa Croce, Florence. He also designed the assured cloister at the Church of San Frediano in Cestello (1628) and the interior of the Church of San Gaetano (from 1628), including the sacristy (1633–48) in which the influence of his master Buontalenti is clear. For San Gaetano he also designed the robust and assured Baroque façade (1628–49).
