Neufforge, Jean-François
Neufforge, Jean-François (1714–91). Born near Liège, he settled in Paris (1738). His Recueil élémentaire d'Architecture (Elemental Compendium of Architecture—1757–68—the greatest collection of designs in the early Neo-Classical style of the period), with over 900 plates, reinforced his reputation as an archaeological Classicist, so that he was called the Vignola of the age of Louis Seize. He also helped with the production of plates for Le Roy's important Les Ruines des plus beaux monuments de la Grèce (Ruins of the Most Beautiful Monuments of Greece—1758), one of the early significant influences on Neo-Classicism and the Greek Revival.
