Hare, Henry Thomas (1861–1921). English architect, he designed several distinguished buildings, including the Renaissance Revival Town Hall, Oxford (1893–7), with Elizabethan gables derived from Kirby Hall, Northants. At University College, Bangor, Wales (1907–10), and Westminster College, Cambridge (1897–9), he used a late-Tudor Gothic style, but he was also capable of powerful Mannerist and Baroque essays, as in his stupendous United Kingdom Provident Institution, Strand, London (1906–7—with fine sculpture and internal paintings—but demolished in 1961), and Central Library, Islington (1905–8).
