Brückwald, Otto

Brückwald, Otto (1841–1904). Saxon Court Architect, and designer of the Festspielhaus (Festival Theatre), Bayreuth, Bavaria, for Richard Wagner (1813–83), much influenced by the work of Semper and Wagner himself. There is a huge stage and the auditorium seating is arranged like a segment of a circle, with the orchestra placed out of sight and partially under the stage. It was an important innovation in theatre design.
