Blaikie, Thomas
Blaikie, Thomas (1750–1838). Scots land-scape-gardener. He was mentioned in Lou-don's Encyclopaedia as an important gardener in France, where he established himself as a designer of gardens in Paris in 1776. He was associated with the creation of several celebrated French gardens, notably those at Bagatelle (with Bélanger), Monceau, and Le Petit Trianon. He was also significant as a collector of Alpine plants for Dr John Fothergill (1712–80) and Dr William Pitcairn (1711–91), and contributed many pieces to Loudon's Gardener's Magazine.
