André, Édouard-François (1840–1911). French landscape-architect and writer. He assisted Alphand in laying out the parks of Paris, and worked with J. -P. Barillet-Deschamps (1824–75) on the creation of horticultural gardens at La Muette, Paris. On his own account he worked in England (e.g. Sefton Park, Liverpool (1867–72) ), The Netherlands (he revived the C17 style of Dutch gardens), Italy, and Lithuania (where he promoted English landscape design). He published L'Art des Jardins in 1879, in which many of the themes to be found in the English landscape garden were advocated for use in public parks.
