association analysis
association analysis A hierarchical method of classification (see hierarchical and non-hierarchical classification methods), which is divisive and monothetic. The method uses χ2 as a measure of association between pairs of species (attributes) found at a range of sample sites (individuals). The species or attribute with the highest overall sum of χ2 values (i.e. the strongest links) with all other species is selected as the basis for subdivision into two groups of sites or individuals, either having or lacking that attribute. The process is then repeated for each new group until no further subdivision is required.
