infrared interface An interface where communication is achieved by transmission of infrared radiation instead of the conventional electrical signal connection. Such interfaces may be used for purposes of electrical isolation. An infrared interface is frequently used to communicate between a personal digital assistant (PDA) and a desktop computer.
