Batten's disease (bat-t'nz) n. a rare hereditary disorder of lipid metabolism. Fatty substances accumulate in the cells of the nervous system, causing progressive dementia, epilepsy, spasticity, and visual failure. The condition starts in late infancy or childhood. [ F. E.
