See index for CA sketch: Born April 28, 1924, in Dallas, TX; died of complications from autoimmune vasculitis, April 21, 2007, in Philadelphia, PA. Author. Sunstein was best known for her biographies of Mary Wollstonecraft and her daughter, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. She graduated from Vassar College in 1944 with a B.A. in art history. During the 1960s, she was active in political and civic organizations. Sunstein chaired the Philadelphia chapter of the Americans for Democratic Action in the mid-1960s, and she was chair of the American Jewish Committee's Philadelphia chapter from 1964 to 1966; she also served as the committee's national secretary from 1973 to 1975. Sunstein published A Different Face: The Life of Mary Wollstonecraft in 1975 and Mary Shelley: Romance and Reality in 1989. The latter won the Prize for Independent Scholars from the Modern Language Association.
