SIDELIGHTS: Catherine Spangler told CA: "I think my love of books inspired me to write. My parents read to me from a very early age, then when I could read on my own, I devoured books. I've been writing ever since I was a young girl.
"I think my preference to write science-fiction romances came from living in Huntsville, Alabama, where a lot of the space program was developed through the National Aeronautics and Space Administration on Redstone Arsenal. My father worked for some years on the space program, and it was very important to me.
"My writing process is very erratic. I write in spurts and might go months without writing at all. I'm also what I call an 'unconscious writer,' depending very heavily on my subconscious to work out story details. I'm not strong on external methods of plotting or character charts. I also find that having a contracted deadline forces me to finish books that might otherwise take forever.
"I have published five futuristic/science fiction romance novels. Now I'd like to try my hand at something different. I believe I will always write romance, but I'm working on some romantic comedies, and some paranormal series involving immortals and aliens."
