SIDELIGHTS: Bulgarian writer R.T. Raichev lives in London, England, where she works as a researcher. Her first book, The Hunt for Sonya Dufrette, follows librarian and mystery writer Antonia Darcy as she sets out to solve a twenty-five-year old mystery with the assistance of handsome widower, Major Hugh Payne. On the morning of the royal wedding in 1981, an autistic child went missing at a house party that Antonia was attending and is presumed dead. More than two decades later, however, Antonia suspects that something else really occurred. Ilene Cooper, in a review for Booklist, remarked: “Antonia Darcy is a terrific sleuth, and Raichev is a very clever writer, indeed.” A contributor to Kirkus Reviews wrote that “fans of cozies will love the light touch of Raichev’s debut, right down to the charmingly titled chapters,” while a reviewer for Publishers Weekly called the book an “auspicious first in a new mystery series from Raichev.” Raichev plans to develop more adventures featuring Antonia Darcy and Hugh Payne. The majority of the stories will revolve around English country houses, a setting Raichev finds endlessly intriguing. She considers her work to be an homage to what she calls the “Golden Age of English detective fiction.”
