SIDELIGHTS:
Eve Pollard is a British writer and journalist. As former editor of both the Sunday Mirror and the Sunday Express, she is the only female to hold the reins of more than one national periodical in the United Kingdom. Pollard got her start as the fashion editor of Honey magazine in 1967 and moved around to numerous publications throughout her career. She published her first book in 1969, a biography of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. In the mid 1990s, after leaving the Sunday Express, Pollard wrote four novels with Val Corbett and Joyce Hopkirk. In 2006 she returned to the topic of her first book, publishing Jack's Widow, a fictionalized account of Jacqueline Kennedy's life after the assassination of her first husband.
Jack's Widow is Pollard's own explanation of the former first lady's demeanor, fashion sense, and just about anything else that people would consider a part of her private life. Pollard proposes justification for Jackie's later marriage to Aristotle Onassis and suggests that she may have even been a covert agent with the Central Intelligence Agency. Reviews for Pollard's 2006 book on Kennedy Onassis were mixed. A contributor to Kirkus Reviews called the book's first one hundred pages "a delight to read." However, the reviewer lamented that the story then "veers into a poorly hatched espionage plotline." Sheila Riley, writing in Library Journal, "recommended" the book but noted that some of Pollard's theories might be "a bit much to swallow" for some readers.
