SIDELIGHTS: National award-winning freelance writer Arden Moore specializes in writing about pets, human health, fitness, and integrative medicine. Moore has written a number of books about caring for, training, and pampering dogs or cats. In her books 50 Simple Ways to Pamper Your Dog and 50 Simple Ways to Pamper Your Cat, Moore includes everything from recipes for gourmet treats to pet massage techniques as ways that pet owners can keep their pets happy and healthy. Throughout, Moore emphasizes natural and herbal techniques and offers practical advice, such as looking for lumps on pets and having them removed, which could ease discomfort and possibly even save their lives if the lumps are cancerous.
In her book Happy Dog: How Busy People Care for Their Dogs: A Stress-Free Guide for All Dog Owners, Moore teamed up with veterinarian Lowell Ackerman, to teach people with busy lives how to spend quality time with their dogs and keep them happy even though the owners are often on the go and not at home. The book includes photographs and covers such topics as selecting the appropriate breed for the owner's lifestyle; nutrition, safety, and health issues; positive training approaches; activities; traveling with pets; and even getting the right kind of pet sitters. Florence Scarinci, writing in Library Journal, called the book "a comprehensive guide for today's busy person who wants to enjoy the companionship of a dog" and noted that the authors had a "breezy, easy-to-understand style."
