CAREER:
U.S. Merchant Marine, career officer, 1958-88, retiring as master mariner and captain. Stanwick Corp., Norfolk, VA, senior maritime consultant, 1974-78; Texas Maritime Academy, Galveston, assistant professor, commandant of cadets, and executive officer of Texas Clipper, 1977-78; U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY, professor of maritime studies, beginning 1978, now professor emeritus, and head of nautical science division. Served in U.S. Navy as gunnery officer on a destroyer, and as an executive officer, commanding officer, and instructor; merchant mariner with U.S. Lines, Farrell Lines, American Export Lines, McCormick Lines, Grace Lines, and Military Sealift Command; Sandy Hook Pilots Association, member of accreditation panel; inspector for certification of masters and mates for Staten Island Ferries and New York City fireboats.
