Metzmacher, Ingo

Metzmacher, Ingo, German conductor; b. Hannover, Nov. 10, 1957. He received training in piano and conducting in Hannover, Salzburg, and Cologne. After serving as pianist in the Ensemble Modern (1981–84), he concentrated his energies on a conducting career. In 1985 he made his debut as an opera conductor with Le nozze di Figaro at the Frankfurt am Main Opera. In subsequent seasons, he appeared as a guest conductor with major European opera houses. In 1997 he became Generalmusikdirektor of the Hamburg State Opera and chief conductor of the Hamburg State Phil. Orch.
