See index for CA sketch: Born December 28, 1941, in Ann Arbor, MI; died July 28, 2003, in Princeton, NJ. Educator and author. Kovach was a professor and cofounder of the Leadership Development Institute at Rutgers University. She graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in 1963 and an M.A. in 1964, followed by a doctorate at the University of Maryland in 1973. After working as a high school teacher in California during the 1960s, she became an associate professor of psychology at the University of Michigan at Dearborn in 1973, where she remained until 1984. She was then hired to teach at Rutgers, where she served as dean of University College and the School of Business. A director of the Leadership Development Program there, Kovach also cofounded the Leadership Development Institute, which was designed to help business students to become corporate leaders. Interested in psychology and personal leadership skills in the business world, she wrote several books on these topics, including Power and Love: How to Work for Success and Still Care for Others (1982), Survival on the Fast Track (1988; revised edition, 1993), Organization Game-board (1989), Leaders in Place (1994), and More about Survival on the Fast Track (1996). She also produced a series of videotapes on leadership called "Keys to Leadership" (1991-97). Kovach wrote on other topics in psychology besides those on business leadership, however, and some of her other books include such titles as Sex Roles and Personal Awareness (1978) and The Experience of Adolescence: Development in Context (1983).
