SIDELIGHTS: Elizabeth Koda-Callan is an author and illustrator. Her career as an artist began after she completed her post-graduate studies in visual arts and became a designer for Glamour magazine. She continued to work as both an art editor and illustrator, and published her first children's book in 1988.

The Magic Locket is a children's book geared specifically to young girls. The little girl in the story feels as though she can never do anything right. She receives a golden necklace as a gift and with it comes the magical power of believing in herself. An actual packaged locket accompanies this book that was both written and illustrated by the author. The Magic Locket was followed by other books in the "Magic Charm" series. Each of the eleven books in the series comes with a necklace or some other trinket, and has a character building plot, featuring a young girl who overcomes an obstacle of some sort.

The Shiny Skates focuses on determination and is about a girl's perseverance to learn to skate. The Cat Next Door tells the story of a girl who must prove to her mother that she is responsible enough to have a cat of her own. The Secret Diary features a main character who desperately wants a baby sister, but when she gets her wish, she is surprised by her feelings of jealousy. She then turns to her diary to sort out her feelings. This particular book turns into a diary for the reader and comes with a key on a chain.
