Gubernick was an entertainment correspondent for Forbes and the Wall Street Journal. Graduating from Bryn Mawr College in 1978, she began her journalism career as a finance writer for the American Lawyer and the spin-off publication Takeover Control Alert. During the early 1980s, she also wrote for Securities Week and East Side Express. In 1984, she joined the Forbes staff, later becoming its Hollywood correspondent from 1987 to 1990, when she was promoted to senior editor. In 1998, she left the magazine to work for the Wall Street Journal, where she again wrote for the entertainment section. Gubernick was also the author of two books, Squandered Fortune: The Life and Times of Huntington Hartford (1991) and Get Hot or Go Home: Trisha Yearwood, the Making of a Nashville Star (1993).
