Gubrud, Irene (Ann)
Gubrud, Irene (Ann), American soprano; b. Canby, Minn., Jan. 4, 1947. She studied at St. Olaf Coll. in Northfield, Minn. (B.M., 1969), and with Marion Freschel at the Juilliard School of Music in N.Y. She won the Naumburg International Voice Competition (1980), and made her operatic debut as Mimi in St. Paul, Minn., in 1981; also toured widely as a recitalist. She was successful in a comprehensive repertoire, extending from early music to the avant-garde.
