PERSONAL: Born September 22, 1919, in New York, NY; daughter of Frank (an insurance underwriter) and Katherine (O'Rourke) McLaughlin; married Leslie Gill (deceased); children: Leslie Gill (daughter). Education: Pratt Institute, B.F.A., 1941; attended New School for Social Research, 1938-40, 1966. Hobbies and other interests: Bird watching, theater, books, music, and art.

CAREER: Photographer, writer, director. Conde Nast Publications, New York, NY, staff photographer, 1944-54. Exhibitions: Photographs are represented in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the International Center for Photography, the Cleveland Art Museum, and the Lincoln Center Theater Library. Photographs have appeared in periodicals including, Town & Country, McCall's, New York Times, House & Garden, Glamour, Vogue and Woman's Day.

SIDELIGHTS: Frances Gill McLaughlin has spent most of her life doing what she loves—taking pictures. She has also written several books, including Twins on Twins, with her identical twin sister, Kathryn. Twins on Twins is a book of photographs and essays on sets of twins from all walks of life. The book is used by parents of twins and twins themselves as a reference tool, but it is also a beautiful photography book appreciated by art fans. Gill told the New York Times, "There are plenty of books about twins which treat them as subjects of medical studies, but no one has asked twins how they feel about being twins."
