SIDELIGHTS: Ronald Fry once told CA he planned to become an engineer until "I realized the laziest engineer put in three times as much time as the hardest working Liberal Arts candidate. I quickly switched to English, failed creative writing, and was told 'never, never NEVER to consider a career in writing.' Thankfully, I didn't listen to the troll's advice. I am, more than anything, interested in humanity, not so much in man's inhumanity to man as in man's common bond, common feeling, common desires. I hope, through my future work, to accelerate man's return to a basic humanistic concern for his fellow man. I also … want to write 'everything there is to write.' I might not make it, but getting there should be quite interesting!"
