Author and educator Michela Calore taught early modern literature at the University of Reading in Reading, England, where she held a position in the School of English and American Literature. Calore's books focus on Elizabethan and Shakespearean drama, stagecraft, and music. Elizabethan Stage Conventions and Their Textual Verbalization in the Drama of the 1580s and 1590s, for example, focuses on the standard stage techniques, conditions, and conventions prevalent in Elizabethan drama of the later sixteenth century.

In Music in Shakespeare: A Dictionary, Calore and coauthor Christopher R. Wilson explore the many and various musical terms found within the works of William Shakespeare. The book contains more than 300 alphabetical entries with a definition of each term and its wider theoretical and historical context. The authors provide terms and concepts that span the entirety of Shakespeare's plays, dramas, and poetic works. Their work includes an assessment of the importance of musical imagery, allegory, and allusion in Shakespeare's work, from simple but dramatic trumpet flourishes announcing the entrance of a character to more sophisticated use of music and sound to convey character, atmosphere, and heightened action. They consider the many musical references found within Shakespeare, as well as the musical stage directions, sound effects, and other musical elements common to Elizabethan and Jacobean theatre. For students, directors, actors, and others interested in faithful recreations of Shakespearean works, Calore and Wilson also describe the types and characteristics of musical instruments used on the contemporary stage.
