PERSONAL: Born December 16, 1939, in Meridian, MS; son of Fay (a mail clerk) and Virginia Carolyn (a college teacher; maiden name, Bledsoe) Bonds; married Elizabeth Hutson Rollins (an executive), June 9, 1962; children: John Bledsoe, Jr., Margaret Lynn Bonds Podlich.
