SIDELIGHTS: Psychotherapist, teacher, and author Tara Bennett-Goleman's first book, The Relaxed Body Book: A High-Energy Anti-Tension Program, was co-written with her husband, Daniel Goleman, and the editors of American Health magazine. The Relaxed Body instructs readers how to relieve their stress and tension through stretches, massage, yoga, acupressure, and other techniques for the body and mind. The authors also discuss how to prevent stress through activities of daily living, such as work conditions, exercising, eating, and sleeping well. A reviewer for Publishers Weekly noted that "Tense bodies can unwind with this practical, first-rate guide to physical repair and prevention."

In Emotional Alchemy: How the Mind Can Heal the Heart Bennett-Goleman discusses how emotions and schema, or expectations, learned in childhood negatively affect the lives of some adults. These adults use negative schema and emotions, such as dealing with fear, betrayal, and rejection, in their daily situations, which results in unhappiness and low self-worth. Bennett-Goleman suggests that through the Buddhist practice of mindfulness people can replace their negative schema and emotions with positive ones. Library Journal contributor Lisa Wise commented, "Bennett-Goleman sends an important message: the healing process is a slow one." "Many readers will trust the path that she forges here," claimed a Publishers Weekly reviewer.
