Young, Percy (Marshall) (b Northwich, 1912; d 2004). Eng. author, teacher, organist, and composer. Adv., Stoke-on-Trent, 1937–44; dir. of mus., Wolverhampton Coll. of Technology, 1944–66. Author of over 50 books, subjects incl. Handel, Schumann, Kodály, Elgar, Sullivan, Sir George Grove, and Vaughan Williams. Ed. various letters of Elgar. Arr. suite from Elgar's unfinished opera The Spanish Lady and made perf. vers. of opera (Cambridge 1994). Wrote va. conc., pf. conc., and choral works.
