Young, Lee
Young, Lee
Young, Lee (actually, Leónidas Raymond), jazz drummer; b. New Orleans, March 7, 1917. The younger brother of Lester Young, he was raised in the Young family band. Because of the age difference, he was not personally very close to Lester and often would not see him for years at a time. He led a group in Hollywood featuring Lester (1941-2); played with Lester and Charlie Parker at JATP (1946), Nat Cole, Benny Goodman, and did studio work. He stopped performing in the mid-1960s and devoted himself to producing new pop acts.
