Wislocki, Stanislaw

Wislocki, Stanislaw, Polish conductor, pianist, pedagogue, and composer; b. Rzeszów, July 7, 1921; d. Warsaw, May 31,1998. He studied with Seweryn Barbag in Lwów, and then at the Timi§oara Academy of Music with George Simonis (composition and conducting) and Emil Michail (piano). In 1945 he founded the Polish Chamber Orch. in Warsaw, and in 1947 he founded the Poznan Phil., which he led as music director until 1958. From 1951 he also taught conducting at the State Higher School of Music in Poznan. In 1955 he became a prof. at the State Higher School of Music in Warsaw, where he held its conducting chair from 1958. From 1961 to 1968 he conducted the National Phil. in Warsaw. He served as music director of the Grand Orch. of the Polish Radio and TV from 1978 to 1982. He also appeared as a guest conductor throughout Europe, North and South America, and Japan.
