Suchyý, Františele

Suchyý, Františele, Czech oboist, pedagogue, and composer; b. Libina u Sumperka, April 9, 1902; d. Brno, July 12, 1977. He studied oboe with Wagner and composition with Kvapil at the Brno Cons, (graduated, 1927), then attended Novak’s master classes at the Prague Cons, (until 1937). He was first oboist in the Brno Radio Orch. (1927-47), then a prof, of oboe at the Cons, and a prof, of oboe and theory at the Academy in Brno.

dramatic: Opera: Maryla (1956). ORCH.: Flute Concerto (1939); Baroque Concerto for Violin and Orch. (1944); 4 syms. (1946, 1950, 1957, 1962); Oboe Concerto (1948); Vysoöina (Uplands), symphonic suite (1957). CHAMBER: Oboe Sonatina (1927); 2 wind quintets (1928, 1958); Wind Sextet (1960); various sonatas. VOCAL: V. Gethsemanë, oratorio (1933); cantatas; songs.
