Suchoň, Eugen (b Pezinok, Slovakia, 1908; d Bratislava, 1993). Slovak composer. Prof. of theory, Bratislava Acad. 1933–48, prof. and head of dept. of mus. education, Bratislava Teacher Training Coll., 1948–59, prof. of mus. theory, Bratislava Univ. 1959–74. Author of textbooks on harmony. Works incl. operas Krútňava (Whirlpool) (1941–9) and Svätopluk (1951–9); Serenade, wind quintet; cl. concertino; Rhapsodic Suite, pf., orch.; str. qt.; pf. qt.; and songs. Evolved his own branch of serialism from 1959.
