Stravinsky, Fyodor (Ignat'yevich) (b Rechitskiy, Minsk, 1843; d St Petersburg, 1902). Russ. bass, father of Igor Stravinsky. Sang Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia in student prod. 1873. Kiev 1873 (début as Rodolfo in La sonnambula). Prin. bass Mariinsky Th., St Petersburg, 1876–1902, making over 1,200 appearances in 64 roles. Created Tchaikovsky roles of His Highness in Vakula the Smith (1876), Dunois in The Maid of Orleans (1881), and Mamïrov in The Enchantress (1887); also created Headman in May Night (1880) and Grandfather Frost in The Snow Maiden (1882).
