št?dro?, Bohumir, eminent Czech musicologist, brother of Vladimír Št?dro? and uncle of Miloš Št? b. Vyžkov, Oct. 30, 1905; d. Brno, Nov. 24, 1982. He studied theory with Josef Blatny (1925–28) and piano with Vilém Kurz (1926–28); also took courses in history and geography at the Univ. of Brno (graduated, 1929), where he attended Helfert’s lectures in musicology; after further training in Italy (1931), he returned to the Univ. of Brno to take his Ph.D. in 1934 with thediss. Sólové chrántové kantáty G. B. Bassaniho (G.B. Bassani’s Solo Church Cantatas) and to complete his Habilitation in 1945 with his Chrámová hudba v Brn? v XVIII. století (Church Music in Brno in the XVIIIth Century). He taught music education at a teacher-training college (1931–39), and also was an assistant to Helfert (1932–38); then taught music history atthe Brno Cons. (1939–45; 1950–52); in 1945 he became a teacher at the Univ. of Brno, where he subsequently was made asst. lecturer in 1950, lecturer in 1955, and prof. in 1963. He was an authority on the life and music of Janacek. In addition to his important books, he contributed many articles to scholarly journals.
